Year 5 Trip to Jodrell Bank 2026
Year 5 Trip to Jodrell Bank
Year 5 had an exciting and inspiring day at Jodrell Bank, one of the world’s leading centres for astronomy and space science. The trip brought their science learning to life and gave the children a fantastic opportunity to explore the wonders of space and technology.
During the visit, the children explored the Science Pavilion and the First Light Pavilion. Inside these interactive exhibitions, they discovered how the famous Lovell Telescope works and why it is such an important part of scientific research. They learned how radio telescopes can detect signals from space, helping scientists study distant galaxies, stars, and even the possibility of life beyond Earth. The pupils were fascinated to learn about the incredible history of Jodrell Bank, including how it has played a role in tracking spacecraft and contributing to major discoveries in astronomy.
There were plenty of hands-on displays and interactive activities that allowed the children to test their knowledge, ask questions, and think like real scientists. They were particularly amazed when they saw the enormous Lovell Telescope up close and realised just how powerful and important it is for exploring the universe.
The highlight of the trip was a visit to the Space Dome, where the children experienced a truly immersive show. Sitting beneath the giant domed screen, they were taken on an incredible journey through space. They travelled across the Solar System, explored distant planets, and even experienced what it might be like to land on Mars. The stunning visuals and fascinating explanations helped the children understand more about our place in the universe and sparked lots of curiosity.
Overall, it was a fantastic day full of discovery, exploration, and awe-inspiring science. The children were enthusiastic, asked thoughtful questions, and represented the school brilliantly. It was wonderful to see their curiosity about space grow, and the trip will certainly be one they remember for a long time.
