Year 2 Science - June 2026
Year 2 Science Investigation
In Science, Year 2 have been learning about how to observe patterns over time by carrying out their own investigation.
The children worked together to plan an enquiry to find out whether practising exercise regularly would make a difference to their fitness levels. They decided to time how long it took them to complete four laps of the playground each day over a period of seven days.
Each day, the children have been timing their four laps and carefully recording their results. As they are only on Day 3 of their investigation, they are beginning to look for patterns and think about factors that might affect the outcome.
Today was the first day that the children completed their laps wearing their PE kits, which led to some discussions about whether wearing different clothing and footwear might make running easier and therefore affect their times. They discussed how scientists try to keep tests as fair as possible and identified variables that could influence their results.
We are looking forward to completing the investigation over the coming days and analysing the final results to see whether regular exercise has made a difference to their performance.
Well done, Year 2!
