Year 5 Science - Exploring Time with Sundials
Year 5 Science - Exploring Time with Sundials
Year 5 have been getting ready for an outdoor investigation to see how accurate their sundials are. The children have been busy setting up their sundials carefully and using compasses to make sure they are facing the correct direction.
They have talked about how the sun moves across the sky and how this changes the shadow on the sundial. The class shared their predictions, discussed how they will check the time, and thought about what they might need to change if their sundials are not accurate.
Throughout the week, the children will return to their sundials at different times of the day. This will help them observe how the shadow changes and decide how well their sundials tell the time. The investigation is helping Year 5 practise working scientifically, work together as a team, and build a better understanding of how people used the sun to tell the time in the past.
