Year 6 – Would You Risk It? Workshop

Year 6 took part in an engaging and thought-provoking Would You Risk It? workshop, designed to help pupils recognise risks and make informed decisions as they prepare for their transition to high school.

During the session, pupils were presented with a range of real-life scenarios and asked to rate them on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the least risky and 10 being the most risky. The scenarios covered a variety of important topics, including carrying a knife for protection, using e-bikes and e-scooters, swimming in lakes, ponds and canals, and communicating with strangers online.

The children took part in some excellent discussions, exploring why certain situations can be dangerous and learning about the laws associated with them. They also considered real-life incidents from the local area, helping them to understand how these risks can have serious consequences.

Later in the workshop, pupils worked together to identify potential risks within different scenarios, such as entering abandoned buildings, deliberately starting fires and staying safe online. They then discussed practical ways to reduce risks and make safer choices in everyday situations.

The workshop encouraged pupils to think critically about their actions, consider the possible consequences of risky behaviour and develop strategies to keep themselves and others safe. It was a valuable learning experience that provided important life skills.

A huge thank you to the volunteers who delivered the session and helped Year 6 gain a greater understanding of personal safety and responsible decision-making.
