Year 4 Trip to Cuerden Valley Park - 2026
Year 4 Discover River Life at Cuerden Valley Park
Year 4 pupils enjoyed an engaging and hands-on learning experience at Cuerden Valley Park, exploring the fascinating world of rivers.
As part of their geography studies, the trip gave pupils the chance to investigate river features in a real-world setting, while putting the school’s HPL values of collaboration, big picture thinking, and enquiring into practice.
During the visit, the children took part in a variety of activities including panning, measuring the river’s width and depth, and pond dipping. These interactive tasks allowed them to see how rivers shape the landscape and support diverse wildlife. A highlight of the day was a fun duck race, which illustrated the river’s flow and current in an exciting and memorable way.
A park ranger guided the pupils throughout the day, explaining key river processes and supporting them in developing their observation and measurement skills. Experiences like this bring classroom learning to life, helping children understand natural processes in a practical setting.
Cuerden Valley Park is the only registered site in Lancashire offering River Studies and provides a comprehensive education programme covering everything from habitats to their popular Wizarding activities. The park’s commitment to outdoor learning ensures pupils enjoy meaningful and memorable experiences in nature.
The trip was a great success, with pupils gaining new knowledge of river systems while having fun exploring the outdoors. The school looks forward to many more visits in the future.
Well done, Year 4!
