Year 6 Residential to York

Year 6 Residential to York: A Memorable Adventure
Year 6 pupils recently enjoyed a fantastic residential trip to York, packed with exciting activities, historic discoveries, and plenty of fun.
Upon arrival at the racecourse, the children tucked into their lunch before heading into the city to explore the magnificent York Minster. A highlight was venturing into the crypts. Afterwards, there was time for a spot of shopping, with pupils picking up souvenirs and treats to remember the trip. The afternoon was spent at The Castle Museum, where the group was immersed in over 400 years of York’s rich history, bringing the past to life.
Back at the accommodation, tea was a hit – crispy chicken strips and chips with a fresh salad, followed by a warm brownie and cream. The evening was rounded off with games on the racecourse, including football and time to relax and chat about the day with friends.
The next morning began with a hearty full English breakfast, fuelling the pupils for another day of adventure. There was time for a little more souvenir shopping before setting off for a scenic riverboat trip, where lunch was enjoyed on board. As the boat travelled up the river, the children had great fun waving at people along the riverside.
The afternoon brought one of the sweetest experiences of the trip – a visit to York’s Chocolate Story. Here, pupils learned about the Rowntree family and their role in York’s chocolate-making heritage. Everyone got to sample delicious chocolate and even had a go at making their own creations.
That evening, dinner was a stretched pizza with chips, topped off with a waffle and cream for dessert, and then onto the bowling alley for two games of bowling, ending the day on a high.
Sadly, the final day arrived, but there was still one more unforgettable stop: Eden Camp. This immersive museum took pupils back in time to experience life during World War II, providing a powerful and educational end to the trip.
Throughout the entire residential, the children were superbly behaved. Their manners, enthusiasm and teamwork were a credit to the school, and they represented themselves brilliantly at every venue.
The residential was a wonderful opportunity for Year 6 to make lasting memories, strengthen friendships, and enjoy new experiences together. A huge well done to all the pupils for making it such a special trip!
