Year 2 DT - Building Ferris Wheels

Year 2 pupils have been putting their design and engineering skills to the test in their recent Design and Technology (DT) lessons, where they took on the exciting challenge of creating their very own Ferris Wheels.

The project began with a close investigation into how real Ferris Wheels are constructed. The children explored the different parts that make up these popular fairground rides and studied a range of existing designs for inspiration. Armed with this knowledge, they set about designing their own imaginative versions.

Turning their ideas into reality proved both fun and challenging. As they built their models, the young designers used the HPL value of critical thinking and used their problem-solving skills to overcome various obstacles—from stability issues to moving parts. Despite the challenges, their determination and creativity shone through, resulting in a fantastic array of finished Ferris Wheels.

This hands-on project not only encouraged originality and resilience, but also showcased the pupils' ability to apply practical skills to imaginative design.

Well done Year 2!
